Band of Distinction

The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band by Donald B. Powell,

The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band by Donald B. Powell,
They always win the halftime. Members of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, embodying the spirit, camaraderie, and excellence of the school they represent, have marched and played proudly for one hundred years. Here is the story of the music, the precision, the tradition of that exceptional band. Illustrated with 121 black and white photographs and eight pages of color pictures of bands and band members past and present, this lively history pays tribute to the bandmasters and musicians who have made the organization the pulse of the spirit of Aggie-land. Organized around the tenure of its founder, Joseph Holick, and its directors - Richard J. Dunn, E.V. Adams, Joe T. Haney, and Ray E. Toler, the men who became "The Colonel" to generations of Aggie Band members - the book marches through a century of tradition and excellence. From the birth of the band, through the development of its marching style and its stirring, distinctive music, to its most recent triumphs of precision maneuvers and military music, the story is as bold and bright as the band itself. War years, fish bands, boots, band lyres, corps trips, parades, and other traditions known and loved by former band members and other former students of Texas A&M University fill the book's pages. An appendix lists all of the band's seven thousand-plus present and former members. This is a story of the determination, discipline, and enduring pride that rests deep in the heart of those young men and women who have been tough enough, proud enough, and good enough to be The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.

Eddie And The Cruisers (Widescreen)
Eddie And The Cruisers (Widescreen)
They say rock'n'roll never dies, but one dark night in 1963, Eddie Wilson's car took a dive off a Jersey bridge with the troubled rock idol at the wheel. His body was never found. Tom Berenger ("Platoon"), Michael Pare ("Streets of Fire") and Ellen Barkin ("Sea of Love") star in this cool, compelling classic that really rocks! Twenty years after the lead singer (Pare) of "Eddie and the Cruisers" disappeared, the band's songs are hotter than ever. And renewed interest in the band leads TV reporter Maggie Foley (Barkin) to pursue a tantalizing mystery: What if Eddie is still alive? The circumstances surrounding his death are just shadowy enough to make it a distinct possibility, and someone (could it be Eddie?) has been ransacking the homes of surviving band members in a desperate search for tapes of the group's visionary, never-released album. As Maggie interviews the former "Cruisers," the pieces of the puzzle start to fit...but only until still deeper mysteries begin to surface.

Electric Sheep (band) - Electric Sheep was a garage band that included Adam Jones (future Tool guitarist) and Tom Morello (future Rage Against The Machine guitarist and Audioslave guitarist). The band has the distinction, shared by The Grateful Dead, MC5 and Radiohead, of having two members that made Rolling Stone's List of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time (though The Allman Brothers Band has them beat with three).

Kitchens of Distinction - Kitchens of Distinction were a band from South London, UK.

The Nervebreakers - The Nervebreakers were a Dallas-area punk rock band in the late 1970's. Well known around town for their melodic, rocking punk with a liberal smattering of George Jones, they have the distinction of being perhaps the last band to open for lengendary punkers The Sex Pistols.

Morrissey - Steven Patrick Morrissey, (born May 22, 1959), professionally known as Morrissey, is the former lead singer of the highly influential English pop band The Smiths. When the band broke up in 1987, Morrissey began a successful solo career and has the distinction of having had British top ten singles in three separate decades.
